Fabian Schubert May 5 — September 1, 2017

The ongoing series Painters Portraits is a collaboration between photographer Fabian Schubert and artist Hank Schmidt in der Beek. It is a conceptual and visual reflection about the picture-in-picture, a painting artist in the picture, a once painted landscape in the picture and a painted pattern of a shirt as a picture. With this series, Schubert and Schmidt in der Beek are seeking out the plein-air locations of Cézanne, C.D. Friedrich, Gauguin, Hockney, Hodler, Kandinsky, Marc, Monet, Münter and others.

Fabian Schubert is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer and filmmaker based in Berlin. His work focuses on the gap between perception and reality, exploring human contradictions and faults while expanding its interpretation rather than providing simple explanations. In addition to his artistic output, he has worked on a diverse range of commercial photography and video projects, as well as several fictional and documentary films.

He studied photography, history and Japanology in Berlin. His work has been shown internationally in group shows and festivals.

All images are available as 16 x 12", 27½ x 21½" and 39 x 27½" pigments prints made in editions of 25 + 2 APs, 10 + 2 APs and 10 + 2 Aps, respectively. Pieces range in price from $700 to $1550, depending on size and availability.
