Laura Shill September 11 — October 31, 2015

Absent Lovers borrows imagery from Harlequin romance novel covers, and removes from these fantasy tableaux all but one lover.  The lone lover is left suspended in impassioned anguish within a white void, revealing an image that is one of fantasy, desire, and loneliness.

Laura Shill is an American artist based out of Denver, CO.  Her work explores themes of absence, erasure, and aspirational performances of potential selves through experimental practices in photography, sculpture, and installation.  Shill’s work can be found in the permanent collection of the CU Art Museum, Boulder and in multiple private collections.

She earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Alabama, and an MFA from The University of Colorado, Boulder and recently completed an artist residency at Redline in Denver. Her work will be included in an upcoming group exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver.

Images are available as 13 x 10" cyanotypes made in an edition of 8 for $650.
