Homage
to Hopper
Although Edward Hopper is
considered one of the great American artists, by the age of 40 he still
hadn't sold a single painting. It wasn't until he engaged with his own
culture - depicting the rocky New England coastline, or austere folk
in lonely New York streets - that the public took notice. Now, French
photographer Christophe Clark and painter Virginie Pougnaud pay tribute
to his masterpieces with intricate finesse. They begin by building,
painting and photographing a miniature set, based on a particular work.
An image of a figure is then digitally inserted into the set to create
a perfectly modern homage. Elaine Hake
Clark and Pougnaud’s images will be part of the Under The
Influence exhibition at Catherine Edelman Gallery, Chicago, July 14-Sept
