As a native Chicagoan, I have great pride and love for our lake shore. The lakefront is Chicago's "Crown Jewel". During the summer months the lakefront comes alive with beach goers and a myriad of activities, from biking and running to sailing and volleyball. However, at days end the lakefront sheds its kinetic pace and settles down into a place of solitude and reflection.

By early evening, calm descends upon the lake front and that is the time that I love to photograph the Lake Michigan shore with its tranquil and reaffirming feeling. Trees gently sway to the refreshing winds that pass over the shore. Often the fog rolls in and blankets the adjacent parks with a soft pillow like allure. But always beneath this sublime sense of tranquility beats the heart of a lake that can change its personality with the direction of the wind.

As a Chicagoan it's our lake, our friend and a force often to be reckoned with. It can raise its angry head one day and present the appearance of a tropical island the next. It's the weekend get away, the fun afternoon for being with friends, a place to beat the summer heat and the focal point of our Chicago summers.

My photographs attempt to portray the solitude of the lakefront, the feeling I like best when I visit its shores near sunset. The images focus on the darker and more broody side of the lake. It's a more contemplative view, one that allows the mind to clear and the soul to be refreshed. The lakefront is a place where you can escape the masses, and feel the solitude.

We Chicagoans love our lake front and wouldn't want to be any place else in the summer. Chicago may be our kind of town but our lake shore is the reason we Chicagoans are so passionate about our city.
