Chicken Feathers, 1992

A small series of elliptical moments. Early Halloween evening on a rural road as it begins to rain. A young skeleton and two hoboes cross the damp crust of a barnyard followed by a few scraggly chickens. I ask the skeleton if I can make a picture of him and his sisters. The drizzle settles in and the light is failing as I fumble for my camera. The children ignore me as they excitedly divide up some sparklers and assorted fireworks. A goat leads several pigs out of the barn, eyeing the proceedings from a distance. The skeleton asks, "Can we light sparklers?" It is only later that I notice they are standing in chicken feathers.
